I have worn out 3 tapes and 2 cd's from this album. I think it is when the band found its identity musically. The whole album had a theme with the musical sound, whereas the first album kind of hopped around.
Bruce cannot sing these songs and have them sound anything other than a cover song. It is just one of those albums where the only person who can cover the song and have it sound as good or better is Paul.
I originally had all their albums as a youngster. It started with Somewhere in Time, Piece of Mind, then I grabbed Killers not knowing Paul sang. I was like, who is this singing? Eventually, the first two albums were the only ones I had not collecting dust or tossed out/given away, especially in the later years in the Early 90's when Janick Jers joined and Adrian Smith left. I just couldn't handle it anymore. I felt all identity was gone and they couldn't take the corner into a new decade.
I haven't heard their new stuff. Still being around, I assume it is good. Just haven't bothered to listen because I changed my taste and got into modern stuff when I even listen to music which is rare, like Zombie, Foo Fighters, Etc. But, I have followed Paul and also still have Killers.
Just IRONic, I grew up to Killers and befriended Paul and Lea hart somehow someway when I grew up.

yeah, i think paul dianno was the best iron maiden singer, his rockstar problem takes him to the other things...but his voice is unic and original...with the killers album, he show us his potencial and power...but he still be good with his other records with battlezone, killers and as paul dianno and dianno...he is great...hi is PAUL DIANNO and that set!!!

I read the Iron Maiden book, and I was "whoaah, whos that Paul Di'Anno? I have to hear him" and then I borrowed the Killers album from my friend and I was just "This is good!"" Few weeks later I bought the album after I had listened it again and again I realized Paul Di'Anno is the best singer in the world! For example, the c-part in Wrathchild, where's falset, Paul's voice gives me cold shakes! And the greates is the intro of the Killers-song! Bruce thingyinson ain't nothing compared to Paul!!! Bruce kinda sounds like an old which:D in his falset, but Paul's falset is "clean". Y'know what I mean?

And, I forgot to mention, Killers is the best album in the world! There isn't or isn't gonna be as good album as it.

i think the matter with Killers is Martin Birch. He is an unbelievable producer and he helps Paul in his vocals. Maybe the songs in this album are not as great and unique as in the first album, but the music quallity and the voice is there. In the first album in songs like running free, and phantom of the opera, paul's voice isn't that clean and powerfull. In Killers album the voice is stunning. Listen to songs like Killers, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Innocent Excile, Drifter, Wrathchild. I think Paul really had hard time with Martin Birch making this album. But the result is GREAT! In this album Paul can be compared with great voices of heavy metal, such as Dio and Halford. It's a shame paul left Iron Maiden. I imagine some times what it could have happened if Paul had released with Maiden another 2-3 albums. Di'Anno and Harris maybe were different characters, but the songs they wrote together (Sanctuary, Running Free, Remember Tomorrow, Killers) have made history.

Yeah, you're right. Imagine, what would Iron Maiden be, if Paul was still with 'em. I think there couldn't be songs like The Trooper or Aces High. They may not be the songs for Paul's voice. But there could be much better songs. Like you said, songs like Sanctuary, Running Free, Remember Tomorrow and Killers have made history. Ever heard Bruce singing Wrathchild, for example? He's far behind Paul's skills. But in the other hand, imagine Paul singing something like The Trooper. I think Paul's voice is too "rough" for that kinda songs. But it could be interesting to hear what it would sound.

Yeah, sure Paul can't sing properly many of those songs, like fear of the dark, the trooper etc. The only song i've found from maiden's later career, which paul could have sang better than bruce, is "The Prisoner". The music and the lyrics fit his style of vocal. Paul himself in his book has admitted that he can't sing bruce's songs better than him, that's obvious. But the band followed a different style and route when paul left. They became an original heavy metal band. With paul there was the punk style in several songs, such as running free, sanctuary, innocent exile. A style which made the band so different, so raw, so aggresive, so special. But i believe that if paul had stayed, the band would have enjoyed big success. Maiden carried with Paul their first world tour in 1981, which made the band world popular. Just after that, Paul left. Who knows what may had happened if paul had stayed until 1985 for example.
I would also like to think, what may had happened if Paul had returned to Maiden, back in 1993, just after thingyinson left the band. I have heard there were rumors about Paul's return, because they saw him with Dave Murray and Janick Gers backstage after a gig at that particular time. There is no question about who is a better singer, Paul or Blaze. Imagine if Paul had re-unite then with the band... Just after the "Murder One" album... Maybe Paul's best solo album...
